Definition

Area
Area is a measure of the amount of space inside the boundary of a two-dimensional (flat) object, such as a triangle or a region bounded by a closed line or curve. The surface area of a three-dimensional object, such as a cube, is the total area of its exposed surface. The SI unit of area is the square meter (m²).

How do we measure the area of a lake? Since a lake is any body of water surrounded by land, a lake's area is measured based on the space of its water surface bounded by the shoreline.
